St. Elisabeth and the origins of Sandkerwa®
Die erste urkundliche ErwähThe first documentary mention of the celebration of a parish fair (Kirchweih/''Kerwa'') at St. Batholomä (24.08.) goes back to 1531, when, according to an invoice, fish, boiled pork belly (Kesselfleisch) and freshly cooked Blutwurst was eaten in the sand area. How long the parish fair was celebrated and what the reasons for the end of this tradition were, about it there are no exact documentations. In the course of the time this Kirchweih fell again into oblivion.
